Holy Cow! My Visit to Red Cow, BBQ - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

May 20, 2015

I look forward to eating out on the weekends.  During the work week, I visit the same lunch spots around my office or pack the same boring lunch.  The weekend is my opportunity to “pig out” and try a new restaurant.  That’s exactly what I did last week when I tried Red Cow in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

My wife, Laney, recommended that we try Red Cow based upon several mentions on social media as being among South Florida’s top places to go for BBQ.  It did not disappoint.  We dined with another couple, our friends, Brett and Lauren.  I felt compelled to mention this as the amount of food we ordered/ate would have seemed unreasonable for two people to consume in one evening.

We “settled into” the evening with an order of Maple & Bacon Wings and Iron Skillet Corn Bread.  The corn bread was insanely delicious.  The center of the corn bread had a cream corn-like consistency.

For our main course, Laney and I shared an Eat More Meat Combo.  The “Big Decision” to make was selecting what meats to include in our combo.  We opted for brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and stacked beef ribs (wagyu beef).  For our sides, we ordered sweet potato grits and fried brussel sprouts.  The ribs looked like mini souvenir baseball bats on our plate.  The ribs were tasty and didn't require any sauce, in my opinion.  The sausage had a nice smoky flavor with a slight kick of heat at the end.  The brisket was smoked well and was flavorful.  I enjoyed the sweet potato grits (which were more like sweet mashed potatoes) and the fried brussel sprouts too.

Somehow we each managed to have room to order our own desserts!  Kidding.  No dessert for us.  Split checks and we were done for the evening.

If you are in the South Florida area you really need to check out Red Cow.  They are also open for brunch on Sunday – which apparently is quite delicious.
